Depression,What it is
Depression is one of the major psychological distress arising today.For a long time,depression and other psychological problems in teens have been taken frivolously,but the time has come when it is evident that to ensure a better emotional health and well-being of teens,necessary bold steps be taken.
Depression is the feeling of extreme despondency for a prolonged period of time,over two weeks to be precise.
According to International Oxford dictionary,
[Depression is] A mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despondency and dejection, typically also with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, often accompanied by lack of energy and disturbance of appetite and sleep.
Depression,at it’s core,are the mixed emotions of feeling unloved and unimportant.It can be a result of hosts of circumstances but it leads to the feelings of unlovedness and unimportance to an unhealthy level.
Surveys indicate that one in every four teenager experiences depression. Depression in teenagers is more serious as the teen experiencing it,unlike adult,is unable to reach for professional help.The lack of assistance and supervision and constant pressure from the society and parents often leads them to drugs,alcohol abuse,rebel,bullying,criminal activities and self-harm for solace.
Poor judgement skills and unable to make decision rationally and self-loathing can be observed.Feeling ‘bad’ or down in response to a negative event is understandable but depression is feeling bad and constantly beating yourself up for no reason.Oh! There might be a ‘ reason’ or ‘reasons’, but as we shall see those reasons are the gremlins which don’t exist except in your imagination.
Although,depression is one of the gravest issues,is ironically,easiest to overcome.It is,by far the most treatable psychological ailment with the correct monitoring of your thoughts and behaviour patterns.Although,some people require professional expert and medication to overcome depression,it is not a necessity for the large population.If you are prone to the episodes of self-destruction and suicidal thoughts,I strongly urge you to consult a professional
For 90% of you going through the depression,it is very easy to get rid of it.
I’m not,in any way,belittling your problems neither I’m ‘not in a position to understand your life circumstances’, I’ve been there and I’ve overcome depression and so can you ,and everyone who is suffering from it.
