You might be familiar with the phrase “Karma is a bitch.”
Well,it’s totally wrong.
Karma isn’t a bitch.Instead,Karma is cool!
I will explain how.
Before we dive into the theory of Karma, first let’s get clear on it’s meaning to clear the confusion about what someone means when they refer to Karma, because different person derive different meanings of the word.
Wikitionary defines Karma as:
” A force or law of nature which causes one to reap what one sows; destiny;fate”
The American Heritage Dictionary explains Karma as:
“Fate or destiny resulting from one’s previous actions.”
In layman’s term, you might have heard–
“As you sow,so you reap.”
Even though I strongly abhor the words like ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’, it is very evident that whatever actions you take today determines your days tomorrow.
As previously discussed,I’m an athiest and I do not believe in the existence of God. With that said, the only thing I believe in is Karma.
Originally,Karma refers to the Hinduism and Buddhism belief that whatever you do,comes back to you. That means if you did something good in your past life, you will cherish the fruits of that in this life and if you did horrible things, you bet that you are going to be in trouble in your present form, even if what you did was thousands of years back in existence and will continue unless and until you purify the wrong deed.
Karma,if you look up on the internet is one of the most debated topics and different schools of thought on Buddhism have variable interpretations about the teachings of the Buddha and concepts about Karma.
But,we are NOT going to adhere to any of the religious beliefs. It’s too debatable and controversial and often ends up in confusion rather than clarity.
We are going to look at Karma with a new perspective.
I put emphasis on the word “My” because it is neither a real interpretation nor it is a correct one, but it is the one which clears up lot of confusion and helps me to achieve things I want.
Isn’t that’s what we all want at the end?To achieve?
I invite you to have a look at the new definition of the word Karma.
I have personified Karma.
I want you to imagine it not as something mystical or cryptic concept but as a person, who is all powerful and who determines the parts of your life based on your everyday actions.
Now,I don’t want you to think—“That’s what God is! See,you believe God exists!”
The concept of God is flawed because it subtly or flagrantly forces you to admit to yourself that your life is set on stone. You are born with a pre-written script of what will happen with you all your life and hence, you hear phrases like—“Well you can’t defy God’s wish” from the masses.”
You can read about why I think God is a myth right here.
Not with Karma.
Envision Karma as a person who has been with you since the day you were born.
This person watches your every action.Every decision you make, everything you do,it keeps an eye on you.And the best part, it designs the parts of your life based on your actions.
Karma is not biased. He is not judgemental. He doesn’t tells what you should do and what you should avoid. He is just a silent watcher and whatever you do,he either makes portions of your life easier or harder in the future. You can’t cheat him and very certainly, you can’t deceive him.
Every time you read a book to expand your knowledge about a particular subject,he appreciates your action and design an easier future. Every time you lift weight or exercise,he makes your body toned.Every time you put effort into your business,he makes your business bigger and better.
On the sour end, every second you waste on the movies,he plans on making your life worse.Every time you smoke a cigarette,he degrades your body.Everytime you get lazy,he divises ways to ruin your coming days. He keeps looking and records your every move.Whatever you do,you cannot out-run your Karma.
He is the last outlaw you must face.
It feels spooky to think about it in this way,but it isn’t.Instead,it’s beneficial.
TURN KARMA IN YOUR FAVOUR
If we believe in the nature of Karma and that he constructs your life according to your action, then, all you must do is take appropriate actions.By appropriate actions I mean, actions which serve you by adding value to your life instead of draining it.
Some examples of actions that add value to your life are:
• Learning a new language
• Earning and saving
• Eating healthy (fruits and vegetables)
•Taking entrepreneurial risks
•Reading a good book
Examples of actions that drain value out of your life include:
• Watching a lot of TV
• Eating junk food
• Not concentrating on your studies
• Surfing the internet for extended period of time
•Listening songs for hours because you don’t want to involve in any productive activity.
KARMA IS NOT THE MASTER!
Just because Karma has the ability to plot your life, doesn’t make him the master of it too.
He is not the master but a slave in every essence. He is the slave of your deeds and actions.
If you do fruitful actions, you will compel him to structure your life with the best of everything that life has to offer, but you MUST put in the required work.If you do the right things, then,Karma must make your life good. There is no other way!
WHAT DOES THAT MEANS TO YOU?
Overpower your Karma.Take charge of your life and start exploring new horizons which will consequently make your life better in every aspect.
THE RULE OF KARMA
Karma, like everything else, operates under discipline. He has a rule of his own by which he exerts his control on us.
Ladies and gentlemen, take note of the sole rule of Karma, under which he operates:
RULE OF INCREASED RESULT
It means that, however insignificant or small your action might be,it grows exponentially and comes back to you.Your action could be as simple as helping your best friend on one of his project or lying to someone about something that feels of little to no importance to you, will yield you greater good or harm in the future. This is how Karma influences us the most.By maximising our minimal actions,he makes sure we take notice of our actions.
My advice to you is to spend more time building yourself and your empire up.The fruits of the labor will be enormous. You will thank your Karma for it later.
There is one last thing I want to point out.The logical fallacy of Karma.
There are some arguements often put up by the people surrounding it.One of the most viral arguements being:
“If your actions determine your future, how come infants die before they even develop proper eyesight? What wrong did they do?”
” I might look and smile at everybody. That could result in being disgusted looks, instead of receiving back a smile.”
Fair enough? If you read my above paragraphs you will notice that I say “[Karma ] designs parts of your life”. NOT all of it.
Life is complex and consists of innumerable possibilities.Events happen. It’s about what we do with the events that matter.
Life events cannot be halted but definitely can be altered.
Put in the necessary work, and make Karma your servant!
Until Next Time
