You have been there.
You listen to some motivational audio or watch an inspiring movie and you get fired up! You want to bang your goals hard. You can envision yourself on the top of the world and it appears that nothing could stop you.You feel like an aimed fired bullet which won’t stop until it hits the target.
This ofcourse,lasts for a few days,three days max,and then it fizzes out.You come to the realisation that it’s a lot of work constantly moving towards your desired goal or objective.It’s not that you don’t want to achieve whatever you have aimed for,it’s just the lack of motivation ceases the actions required to fulfill them.
This leaves you frustrated and bitter.Sometimes, you also speculate
that you are not capable enough or skilled enough for your set goals,
which is out-right false.
LACK OF MOTIVATION
The lack of motivation is the number one killer of the projects you undertake.
Motivation is the drive,the fuel that constantly pushes you forward and keeps dragging you even on the days you don’t feel like working.If you lack in the motivation department,you can be sure that either
A)your work will will not be achieved or ;
B)It would be not as effective or marvelous as when it would have been done with passion.
THE TWO CATEGORIES OF MOTIVATION
I classify motivation into two categories:
Motivation from within you and Motivation which is driven by forces outside of you.
These are the only motivations you have got.No more.
This raises the obvious question:
WHICH MOTIVATION TO AIM FOR?
By now,you must have already figured out that the motivation you have been feeding yourself up with up until now, is the motivation that is driven from the sources outside of you.It is a bare truth that if you thrive on the motivation that requires constant refill from the outside sources or events,it is more likely to extinguish in the short span of time.Motivations from outside of you never last and are not as potent as the motivation from within.
The motivation which is driven by your consciousness,on the other hand,is a big bang of energy.It starts very small,but gains heavy momentum.With each progress you make,the fire blazes even stronger.
KILLER TIPS TO CULTIVATE MOTIVATION FROM WITHIN
Exactly how do you ignite that fire within you?
I’m giving you seven tips to cultivate and maintain the momentum.
I’m commencing the list from number 7 to number 1.
7- GET ORGANISED
Although clichéd,this point cannot be overlooked.Getting organised refers to the art of creating and maintaining order in your life.
A life filled with chaos and disorder not only makes you less productive but also increases the chances of burning yourself out in the process of attainment of your dreams.Afterall,it is very hard to manage your academics and your pet and and simultaneously work towards your goals.Get organised!
TIP: If you are in the habit of procrastination,get rid of it immediately.Procrastination will never get your work done.You are responsible for your every endeavour .If it needs to be done, do it right now.
Procrastinate the procrastination.
6- CUT LOOSE OF YOUR DISTRACTIONS
This one is a hard pill to swallow.Cutting loose of the distraction is no easy process simply because there are a lot of them.Internet,football matches,Hollywood gossip,your social circle,surfing viral videos on the internet are all examples of distractions you need to get rid of this very instance.The amount of time spent on the useless babble on the net alone is HUGE!
Getting rid of the distractions to focus on your goal will benefit you more.Remember focus is like a laser,which performs best if concentrated, but renders fruitless and of no use if in dispersed form.
Concentrate your entire focus on your goals.
TIP: If you are having any doubt about the amount of time you spend mercilessly on the things that don’t matter,I suggest you to keep a journal for one day and record the time you spent NOT working towards your goal.These include every activity which is not in alignment of the goal you have set yourself for.
You will be blown away by what you find out.

5- SPLIT YOUR GOAL INTO ACTIONABLE OBJECTIVES
You will NEVER feel like working on your goals if they seem
insurmountable to you.
Thus,it is very effective to split your end goal into actionable steps that you can work on each day.If your actionable objectives are also huge,slice them down further into sub-objectives and start working.Your goals will not be reached if they are never worked on.
If a train doesn’t move,it never reaches it’s destination.
TIP: Prepare a chart with your End goals, Objectives and Sub Objectives written down on it.Paste this chart beside your bed on the wall,so it becomes the first and last thing you see before going to bed.It has miraculous effect in sinking your goals into your sub-conscious mind and it stays on your mind until you achieve it.!
4-REALISE THAT NO ONE GETS AS EXCITED AS YOU!
The harsh reality of the world is that nobody gets as excited about your dreams as you do. They might pretend to be happy or celebrate with you when you achieve one of your goals,but when it comes to the ground work of working on it,nobody will get their hands dirty.
Nobody gives a crap about your dreams.
The funny thing is,it’s just not YOUR dreams they feel dull about,they have also given up ‘their ‘ dreams.They are too busy doing the everyday chores of the life,and watching TV.Really.It’s what most people do nowadays,you would be surprised.
Never involve anyone else in achieving your dreams because it’s a
futile battle,and in the end,they will suck the life out of you too.
TIP: Never give a full disclosure about what your dreams are to anyone.Explaining them what you are shooting for, is only going to hurt your chances when they will start giving you the reason about why you can’t do the thing you have planned.
Achieve and then exhibit.
Now here come the three most potent tools to ignite and maintain motivation in you.If you use only these three and leave the rest,you are still going to get what you want.Mixing these three upcoming elements with the above mentioned four,you become absolutely unstoppable.
Ask yourself ‘WHY?.’
Why do you want to achieve the goals you have?
What benefits will it give you to have all those goals fulfilled?
What are the end results of the goals?
Asking yourself ‘why’ is precious.
‘Why’ is the engine that drives the motivation.
Simply put,you will not be motivated if you don’t have a motive.
Asking yourself why has a tremendous impact.It reveals all the hidden desires you have connected with your goals.I can’t stress this enough.’Why’ will drive you like nothing else.’Why’is not a motivational joint you take which keeps you elated for a brief period of time and after some time it looses it’s effect.Instead,it is the dose of motivation for lifetime.
TIP: Get a piece of paper.Right now.Don’t wait or think about finishing this article first and then doing this exercise.It’s so important that I want you to do it because I want you to benefit,not just read and forget.So please get your journal or a piece of paper.
IT SHOULD NOT BE DIGITAL!
Don’t open a text document on your computer or smartphone.Get a real paper because it is life altering.
Got it? Good!
Now,what I want you to do is right down why you want to achieve your goals.Do you want to achieve them because you want a secured future?
Do you want to achieve them because it will result in a lot of cash or yourself? Or do you want to achieve them because you want to help the poverty-stricken kids in the Africa?
My list of ‘whys’ looks like this:
1- A lot of wealth for lifetime which will give me freedom to buy
anything I want.
2- It will give me freedom and a lot of time to travel around the world.
3- I will not have to be someone’s ‘slave’. I could do whatever I want
and nobody will put restrictions on me.
Write your ‘whys’.
The more, the better.Make it compelling and emotionally provocative to you.
If sunbathing in the Bahamas is what you want.Go ahead.Write it down.If you think retiring in your 30s with a lot of cash is cool to have,note it down!
I don’t know what you want.Write what you want.Become totally selfish.Nobody is ever going to see that list but you.Just create the list!
Whenever you feel like you don’t have enough fire to drive you forward,just have a look at this list.It will amp you up in no time.
Okay,so we have created the list and we are ready to take over the world.
Now,what is required for you to do, is ask yourself ‘how.’
“If ‘why’ is the engine,then ‘How’ is the steering wheel.
You won’t be able to reach where you want to go unless you don’t steer yourself in the right direction.”
Ask yourself ‘how’.
How can you reach to your goal?
How can you reach your objectives?
How can you accomplish your sub-objectives?
Brainstorm about it for a while and write down everything you can think of.
Then start putting your ‘hows ‘ into action.
Asking yourself ‘how’ will create a map for you to follow to reach your destination,your dream.
TIP: Below the ‘whys’,I want you to list ‘hows’.
Again,if your dreams are too much for you,chunk them up into– End goal,Objectives and Sub-Objectives.Then ask yourself ‘how’ can you accomplish your Objectives and Sub-Objectives.
It is very essential that you do it.
(Numero Uno!!) 1- REWARD YOURSELF WHENEVER YOU ACCOMPLISH ONE OF YOUR
You must get into the habit of rewarding yourself whenever you fulfill one of the objectives you have set for yourself.Go in a good restaurant and give yourself a treat.Spend the money on yourself.Maybe get that new watch you have been wanting.Be shameless.
Don’t give it a second thought!
It’s your reward.You had put sweat on an objective,you deserve it and yourself everytime you accomplish your objective will set a mechanism in your mind about the objectives.It will drive you even stronger to complete your objectives because you experience pleasure whenever you do so and completing objectives will ultimately lead to the accomplishment of your End goal.
TIP: Never even for once treat yourself if you don’t accomplish your
objective.If you do,it will ruin the entire mechanism you want to set and you want to avoid setting the flawed mechanism.
Remember Pavlov’s Dog Experiment?
That is the kind of mechanism we are setting here,just a little different-a reward at the end of hard work and achievement of an objective.
So there you have it.This is not some stupid list which you read and
forget.This is the only thing you ever need to be motivated.
APPLY IT if you want the change to happen.It’s very easy and you will have massive improvements in your life.
